Back in September of 2015, Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice for Real Madrid during their Champions League game, the second marking his 500th career goal. In honor of this achievement, Nike created the ‘Quinhentos’ edition of the Mercurial Superfly CR7. The soccer cleat creates a barefoot feel equipped with a Flyknit yarn throughout the sock-liner and tongue. The rest of upper is comprised of a NikeSKIN formation that incorporates ACC technology to keep the shoes dry in wet conditions without losing grip.
Five hundred goals. That’s why we’re taking a closer look at the Nike Mercurial Superfly CR7 Quinhentos. Five hundred singular moments of quality that built Cristiano Ronaldo up as one of the true greats of all time. Brick by brick, goal by goal.
Revealed in October 2016 after Ronaldo netted his 500th career goal against Malmo in the Champions League, the wait for the drop of the Quinhentos has been an impatient one. Four months on and it’s game on as the CR7 series powers towards another sold out sign, further confirming Ronaldo as the most marketable footballer on the planet, with the most decorated boot collection too. If there’s a CR7 on it, it won’t hang around for long.
The Nike Mercurial Superfly CR7 Quinhentos is the second limited edition CR7 boot of the year, following on from the 324K Gold drop that paid homage to Ronaldo’s title of all-time leading goalscorer for Real Madrid. Just like the 324K Gold, the ‘Quinhentos’, which translates to ‘five hundred’, is inspired by one of Ronaldo’s favoured Mercurial Vapor III designs and although it comes with a ‘limited edition’ tag Nike have refrained from releasing any exact figures yet. With another 25 goals to his name now already, it’s on to the next one.
